In 2020, Colorado Crossroads is on two weekends. The younger age groups (12s-15s) play March 7-9 (Sat-Mon); the older age groups (18s-16s) play March 13-15 (Fri-Sun). All play will be at the Colorado Convention Center, 700 14th Street, Denver, CO, 80202.
Most of you know that, as of 2016, USAV instituted a new process for 18 Open, 18 USA and 18 National to qualify for championships and moved the actual 18s championship tournament to the spring. There now are a number of national qualifying events for these 18s groups; Crossroads is one of only a few that still have 18s divisions as part of a national qualifier for all age divisions.
Because of few conflicts with any other regular Qs, and because we are able to conduct our 18s and our regular Q divisions together just as we always have, with multiple ages playing for bids in the same venue and at the same time, we are confident Crossroads will remain the same exciting event it has been for years. Many of you have been part of it many times, and we look forward to having you back, along with any “newbies” who want to be part of what has proven to be a spectacular event.
Glenn Sapp is the Head Official for Crossroads, along with Keith Murless and a player to be named later as his assistants. Glenn’s contact information is below.
The Clinic/Organizational meeting for Week 1 is on Friday, March 6; for Week 2 on Thursday, March 12, 2020. Both meetings begin at 9:00 pm in a meeting room (#TBD) at the Colorado Convention Center.
Check In for both meetings will begin at 8pm. At the meeting you will receive the tournament protocol, first day assignments and information of what is expected of officials at this National Qualifier. Please report to the meeting room up to one hour prior to the meeting to check in. This will alleviate the logjam and speed up the overall process.
Please make every effort to be at the meetings; it should not take more than 1 hour if everyone is on time. For those who cannot possibly attend the meetings, there will be a 7:00 am meeting at the Championship Desk on Saturday, March 7 or Friday, March 13.
ATTENTION: There will be a USAV “National Level” clinics offered on Thursday, March 12 from
5:00 to 9:00pm. Please sign up on line with USAV if you wish to attend and have already paid for this clinic as part of your “National” renewal. If you do not make arrangements prior to the event, you are still welcome to attend but you will be charged at the door.
Crossroads provides housing on a limited basis for out of town officials at the Sheraton and several other hotels within walking distance of the Convention Center (about 4 blocks). We have limited number of rooms, available until February 1, 2020 or until the rooms are filled, whichever comes first. We will put two officials to a room) but may, in some cases, have to triple up, depending upon the number of out of town responses.
- Step One is to go onto the TM2sign.com website and register for one or both weekends.
- Step two a confirmation email of acceptance from Glenn will be sent in 2 – 3 business days. If you do not receive an acceptance email within that timeframe contact Glenn at (firstname.lastname@example.org) he might not have seen your first registration.
- Step three once you have received the acceptance email, make your travel arrangements. You will also need to go to the following link to input your travel arrangements, housing request, USAV information. http://www.rmrofficials.org/WebCode/Crossroads/CrossroadsSignup.aspx
Remember, we have a limited number of rooms. Those who respond first will be the last to have an additional person put into their rooms. (We do this to give some incentive for a quicker response.) In any event, room reservations are not complete until we have a completed tm2sign.com application and information is put into http://www.rmrofficials.org/WebCode/Crossroads/CrossroadsSignup.aspx
After February 1, 2020 or when the housing blocks fill, we may have some complimentary rooms available at outlying hotels that would require you to drive to the hotel or take the light rail into the Convention Center. If you are able to take advantage of this, let us know.
To qualify for *Free* housing you must work all three days of the event. Requests for free housing will be handled on a first come, first serve basis. Requests made after January 24, 2020 or after the available complimentary rooms are filled may have a discounted rate, but not a free room.
The compensation for this event will be:
National Officials: $38.00 per match plus *free housing
Junior National Officials: $36.00 per match plus *free housing
Regional Officials: $32.00 per match plus *free housing
Provisional Officials: $30.00 per match plus *free housing
Out of State officials who work all three days of each event are guaranteed at least 16 matches. Note: In all probability you will be assigned more, but we can only guarantee 16 matches. As in the past, we will make every effort to pay you on the last day of the event.
Denver light rail now runs from Denver International Airport to Union Station downtown. Cost is $9 each way and takes about 40 minutes. From Union Station to the free 16th Street shuttle is about two blocks. Crossroads partners with the Friends of Jaclyn (FOJ), which is a support group for children having a pediatric cancer . The “FOJ Day” is the second day of each weekend (Sunday, March 8 and Saturday, March 14); the shirt color is purple; Crossroads will provide the shirts. Please be sure to indicate on your application if you need a shirt and what size (you can, and we encourage you to, use the same shirt as last year if you received a shirt in 2019) so we can make sure we have one for you.
If you would like to be a part of our officiating corps, please fill out a reply form for officials in TM2Sign.com., which is now available at TM2sign.com. Instructions for applying appear below. Your completed form must be submitted by February 1, 2020.
PLEASE REMEMBER the cut off for housing is January 16, 2020 or whenever the housing block is filled.
